Busy Players Are Tight Players

Sometimes in online poker, your immediate environment can make a difference. No matter what your venue is, there are all kinds of things that can distract you and your online poker opponents; if you’re at a home game, a blaring television or someone coming back from a pizza run can be a big distraction, while at a casino the waitress or a ringing cell phone can take a player out of the game. It’s just another thing to pay attention to, because if your poker online opponent is distracted, your opponent will be a tight player. If you make a raise before the flop and your opponent is busy watching the game on the television behind you or is trying to tell his wife when he’s coming home, he’ll usually glance at his cards and toss them. When players have other things on their minds, poker generally takes a back seat, and unless they’ve got a really eye-catching hand, they’re going to fold and get back to whatever it is that they’re doing. It’s a great way to get a quick read on your opponent because most distracted players will only call a raise with a terrific hand, so if you’re playing against a distracted table, get a bit more aggressive.
