Green Motors ‘could save on Car Insurance’
Car insurance customers have been advised they could save money on policies by going green. Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Broker’s Association, suggested drivers could save cash by choosing a car with a smaller engine – and therefore, lower CO2 emissions – as such vehicles are classed in a cheaper insurance bracket. He also recommended driving less, as this could make motorists eligible for a mileage discount on their cover. “It is really down to your driving habits and your choice of vehicle that will have the biggest impact on green insurance,” Mr Trudgill commented. He added drivers who feel their premiums are too high should contact their broker in order to tailor the policy to meet their specific green needs – and suggested any money saved could be donated to an environmental charity. According to recent research by moneysupermarket.com, 19 per cent of motorists have sold or downsized their car since the start of the credit crunch.Upfront costs for green vehicles are turning consumers off such automobiles, it has been revealed.A poll carried out by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk has revealed that a third of all motorists who wish to buy an environmentally friendly car are presently unable to do so because the costs associated with the initial purchase are too high.It showed that more people would be willing to embrace green driving, however, the costs first need to fall considerably.
