Stacking Furniture

The man stacked the furniture continuously and for as long as he could. The pile was getting quite large now, he was pleased with himself. Passers-by gave the ever-increasing pile a curious glance, wondering what on earth he could be up to, making a random stack of furniture like that. He stopped with the stack he was doing and moved on to the next. Then the next and the next one after that. Soon the mound was even larger. He took the final piece of oak furniture, a specially crafted chair that he’d made himself, as he used to be a bit of a carpenter, back in the day. He hoisted the chair up the ladder and put the chair in place, right in the center at the top. If he sat in the chair now, everyone would be able to see him and he’d be able to see everyone. A few moments later, the pile was fairly drenched in gasoline. Discarded canisters littered the ground around him and the pile of furniture. He grabbed a packet of matches from inside and headed towards the ladder. Quite a crowd was gathering now, they were all wondering what he was going to do. Was he going to burn the furniture? But it all looked brand new! He climbed to the center and took his seat on the ornate chair. For a moment he looked around at the relatively large crowd that was now watching his every move. “Want to see something exciting?” The man said. Nonchalantly taking the pack of matches from his jacket pocket. “Watch this.” And with that, he struck a match. He gazed at it almost lovingly as the tiny flame danced in front of his - and the crowd’s - eyes. He sighed. And dropped the match.
